LuisaViaRoma celebrates the Lunar New Year - 2

What does the Lunar New Year mean to you?
Welcome a new start, reunion, delicious food, family and friends.

Do you have any traditions you’d like to share with us for the Lunar New Year?
I am from Guizhou and the most traditional thing is to come to my hometown city Guiyang to eat a lot of authentic food.

What are some of your most treasured memories from celebrating this special holiday?
Maybe receiving the red envelopes with money as we used to when we were children, because for obvious reasons I am not given that lucky money anymore!

Many people will be celebrating by themselves this year. What suggestions do you have to lift their spirits and make the best of it?
I do not think that the pandemic should stop you from connecting with your loved ones. Make a voice or video call to the people you want to meet the most and tell them how much you love them. Then, make an appointment to meet as soon as everything will get better.

What outfit will you be wearing? (Whether staying in- or celebrating out!)
At home, as comfortable as possible. When I go out I will still dress up, for example the look selected from LuisaViaRoma this time is perfect.

What do you wish to leave behind this year and what are you looking forward to for 2022?
I will sure carry with me the experience and the lessons I’ve learned in the past year.  In 2022, of course my hope is to keep turning the chapters!

What’s your favorite trend so far for 2022?
Virtual reality, surrealism.

What does the year of the tiger mean to you? What are some ways you will embrace this animal symbol this year?
The Tiger is an animal I love very much. Although the Year of Tiger is not my birth year, I think this zodiac can bring people unlimited vitality and courage.

To cleanse the bad and welcome the new, a mindset that I practise every Lunar New Year.

What are some of your most treasured memories from celebrating this special holiday?
Having home cooked meals made by my grandma and catching up with her, those are always special moments I appreciate more as I grow older. I would want to cherish these moments for life, helping her and just talking about anything under the sun.

Many people will be celebrating by themselves this year. What suggestions do you have to lift their spirits and make the best of it?
Take the time to celebrate you,  reflect on how far you’ve come, take care of yourself mentally and connect with others digitally as well.

What outfit will you be wearing? (Whether staying in- or celebrating out!)
Pieces that allow me to eat till my heart is content and also pieces that I will wear even after this celebration period. Classic looks that will last a lifetime.

What do you wish to leave behind this year and what are you looking forward to for 2022?
The idea of fear and “what if”. Heading towards 2022 with a fresh attitude that I need to try to be able to achieve.

What’s your favorite trend so far for 2022?
Sustainable brands and awareness are on the rise. I love how brands are more aware and trying to be more conscious.

What does the year of the tiger mean to you? What are some ways you will embrace this animal symbol this year?
Bravery, strength, power. These are the characteristics I want to embody for the new year.

LuisaViaRoma celebrates the Lunar New Year - 4

What does the Lunar New Year mean to you?
Lunar New Year, to me, means embracing and learning more about my culture that stems from my mom’s heritage. My mom is Chinese, born in Singapore and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Although we lived far from her side of the family, and only were able to visit them in Southeast Asia once every few years, my mom always made it very important for us to celebrate the Lunar New Year at home in some sort of way. This is why the Lunar New Year makes me think first and foremost about the importance of family (whether it’s the family you are born into, or an adoptive family) and how to me, family is such a great sign of fortune. I wouldn’t be where I am without the support system of my family, and the Lunar New Year reminds me of that!

Do you have any traditions you’d like to share with us for the Lunar New Year?
A tradition used to always be to go to Chinatown for the Lunar New Year Parade, but sadly we haven’t gone in two years because of the pandemic, so I actually really miss that! We’ve been going since my childhood in Los Angeles with my family, and kept the tradition even when I moved to the east coast. I always make sure to stop by my favorite Chinese bakery and pick up a whole box of pastries. For me, red bean buns and sesame seed balls were my go-to! I couldn’t get enough of them, and still can’t! Definitely going to cook up a Chinese meal at home this year with these served on the side as dessert. I will actually be in Brazil with my husband (it’s where he is from), for the Lunar New Year, so I think it would be fun and interesting to find a way to celebrate there. A mix of cultures is what I’m already used to since I grew up with Chinese and Mexican influences because of my parents.

What are some of your most treasured memories from celebrating this special holiday?
Definitely the sounds of the drum and the dragon dance. I see these images in my head so clearly and the sound so clearly, as well. It always gave me an adrenaline rush. I loved watching the dragons make their way from store to store in Chinatown offering good fortune. I remember how loud it sounded and how excited it made me feel to be a part of something like this; something that felt so colorful, grand and full of life. Our mom always gave us a red packet of allowance money, and I always kept the red packet on me wherever I went as a sign of good luck. It made me feel safe and protected.

Many people will be celebrating by themselves this year. What suggestions do you have to lift their spirits and make the best of it?
Unfortunately, this is true! Recently I did a zoom call with a friend for her birthday and she had a few close friends on, and it was such a fun way to feel connected even if it’s just for 30 minutes or an hour or more. Just a way to feel like familiar faces are close by.I love this idea for the Lunar New Year for someone staying home alone. Just schedule a zoom call with family and friends, have everyone cook Chinese food at home together, or order in and eat together over great conversation, and cheers to the holidays. It feels so much less lonely this way because everyone can celebrate together.

What outfit will you be wearing? (Whether staying in- or celebrating out!)
I will definitely be wearing red! I love this red strappy Attico blouse. It’s so bold and perfect for the Lunar New Year. For staying in, I’ll wear it with a simple black skirt from Nensi Dojaka and a pair of my favorite red tights. For going out, I’ll pair it with a pair of loose-fitting high waisted trousers that feel so effortless and cool. These kinds of pants I can wear for everything! They are so versatile. I am super into pairing bold red with a dark brown lip. It’s one of my favorite combinations. And if I end up going out, I’ll throw on this red Jacquemus puffer jacket for an extra celebratory nod, and this latent leather Khaite tote, which is one of the coolest bags of the moment I feel. I feel super festive in this outfit.

What do you wish to leave behind this year and what are you looking forward to for 2022?
I want to leave behind the anxieties that I had personally and that I witnessed around me during the past two years. 2020 was a very difficult year, even though it wasn’t always very openly talked about, especially in the influencer space. Career anxieties, mental health anxieties, being far from family for long periods of time, feelings of loneliness and just an overall sense of being at a standstill and having no control over it. I’m looking forward to a great sense of peace for the upcoming year when it comes to calming these insecurities. I’m also looking forward to living more in the present moment and really focusing on how I can be my best self right now for myself and for those close to me.

What’s your favorite trend so far for 2022?
It’s so soon into the new year, I’m not even sure I’m aware of the trends for the New Year yet, but I would have to say that I just love that oversized menswear look that is still going strong! I love wearing menswear inspired pieces that fit a bit loose, and pairing them with something more femnine, say a low heel, a pearl necklace or a cropped blouse. I feel most like myself in a combination like this. It’s so comfortable and cool at the same time . . . so timeless! And I’m happy I see that this style is very much still being embraced.

What does the year of the tiger mean to you? What are some ways you will embrace this animal symbol this year?
The Year of the Tiger is actually my dad’s birthday year, so we were always aware of it and what it meant. For me, this year reminds me of my dad, and how much I miss him even though I am lucky to get to see him quite often, and how his personality is such a force of nature. He really is such a natural leader, like they say about all people who are born in the Year of the Tiger . . . adventurous, ambitious and having a strong sense of justice. I love all of these qualities! I definitely want to embrace the quality of adventurousness this year and live life thinking about how I can be a kinder, better person. Adventurousness because we deserve it after the past two years, and a stronger sense of justice because our world really needs it . . . holding ourselves accountable for our actions and really trying to make a change when we see inequality happening right in front of our eyes, and rubbing these positive changes off in others. It’s the only way I can see our society really take a turn in the direction we NEED to go in for the future.

LuisaViaRoma celebrates the Lunar New Year - 5

What does the Lunar New Year mean to you?
For me the Lunar New Year is a reunion, the sense of ceremony gives the family reunion a more lively reason.

Do you have any traditions you’d like to share with us for the Lunar New Year?
In my memories, this holiday has a strong association with food. For example,  on the first day of the New Year, we all eat sticky rice cakes with red beans and red dates, which is believed to bring prosperity and attain eminence step by step.

What are some of your most treasured memories from celebrating this special holiday?
I still remember the time when fireworks were not forbidden, it is probably my most vivid childhood memory. After the reunion dinner, the whole family went to the square to set off fireworks. This is a very important New Year memory in my mind.

Many people will be celebrating by themselves this year. What suggestions do you have to lift their spirits and make the best of it?
We are fortunate to have the internet and be able to stay connected and celebrate
The loneliness is temporary, and it is comforting to  know that at the same moment and somewhere, there is someone who loves and cares for you.

What outfit will you be wearing? (Whether staying in- or celebrating out!)
Personally, the aspect of quality comes first when choosing my New Year’s look. The warmth, tailoring, textures and the fit for the occasion are nonetheless important. My choice is probably to put on a blazer and a jacket to keep warm, so that it can handle both outdoor and indoor scenes.

What do you wish to leave behind this year and what are you looking forward to for 2022?
I think I already have a lot of good memories, and let the page pass.
Every year is almost the same, in 2022, I hope everyone is safe, healthy and happy and that perhaps is already more than enough to ask for.

What’s your favorite trend so far for 2022?
The return of some older trends, and peoples tolerance towards slower fashion pace and trends. Clothes out of season are not necessarily deemed as non-fashionable anymore, wearing older clothes and vintage is not only a trend, but is also a means of sustainable practices. After all, we don’t need so many clothes every year, it’s time to go back to our wardrobes to find inspiration.

What does the year of the tiger mean to you? What are some ways you will embrace this animal symbol this year?
To be honest I am not very well informed on the various zodiac signs, but seeing the tiger patterns everywhere got me inspired. I will watch the Spring Festival Gala to welcome the New Year, it’s the most direct way.

LuisaViaRoma celebrates the Lunar New Year - 6

What does the Lunar New Year mean to you?
The New Year means a time for a family reunion. It’s the most anticipated and enjoyable holiday of the year.

Do you have any traditions you’d like to share with us for the Lunar New Year?
As a native of Shanghai, every New Year’s Eve, the whole family gathers to prepare a big family dinner. This process, from the preparation of materials to enjoying the food, is one of the most traditional customs in Shanghai families.

What are some of your most treasured memories from celebrating this special holiday?
On the first day of the New Year, when all the family members get up early to  give new year greetings. The elders give lucky money to the younger generation. Regardless of the amount, it’s with the best wishes and thoughts.

Many people will be celebrating by themselves this year. What suggestions do you have to lift their spirits and make the best of it?
It’s a pity that we haven’t been able to recover from the impact of the pandemic. I hope people who live away from home and celebrate the New Year alone could have a good rest, do something that they normally don’t have time to do, like make a workout plan, or form some good habits during this holiday.

What outfit will you be wearing? (Whether staying in- or celebrating out!)
The first choice is still comfortable, easy pieces which, of course, will be complimented by some more fashionable pieces, such as wearing a pair of new shoes that you were eyeing for a while and finally bought, or some more elegant and relatively exaggerated accessories to add some festive atmosphere.

What do you wish to leave behind this year and what are you looking forward to for 2022?
In the past year, the most unforgettable thing is the good memories of spending time with my friends.
In the upcoming year my biggest hope is that my family and friends will be safe and healthy.

What’s your favorite trend so far for 2022?
I think Athflow style will still sweep the fashion scene of many brands. As well as the 80s and 90s vintage elements combined with futurism.

What does the year of the tiger mean to you? What are some ways you will embrace this animal symbol this year?
The year of Tiger means a new start for me, both in life and in career. I’d like to open up to more possibilities this year.

What’s your favorite trend so far for 2022?
Millennium style, clean palette, micro and mini skirt.

What does the year of the tiger mean to you? What are some ways you will embrace this animal symbol this year?
The meaning of the tiger in Korea is very strong because of the tiger’s colorful patterns. 2022 is the year of the black tiger. In Korean tradition, people have seen a tiger in the night sky in a previous life. Thought to be a shining star, the tiger is a symbol of determination, wisdom and dexterity. It is also known as a symbol of good luck, and there are also images of spirits and mountain spirits that defeat evil spirits! As I prepare for a new beginning, I hope that the tiger will dispel bad luck and bring good luck.

Spending it with  close friends, chatting, cooking and enjoying life together is not a bad idea, because unfortunately this year I am unable to go back to China to celebrate the New Year with my family.

For the most part it will be comfortable clothes that don’t restrict movement, but also of course, more stylish ones for taking photos.

LuisaViaRoma celebrates the Lunar New Year - 10

What does the Lunar New Year mean to you?
Lunar New Year is a time for family reunions and new beginnings. Although I don’t have much family in the US, I love using this time to really be present with those who are here and reconnecting with close friends since I’m always on the go. I also try to be still and practice gratitude, so I can be open and ready to receive blessings in the coming year.

Do you have any traditions you’d like to share with us for the Lunar New Year?
I loved receiving red envelopes growing up so I always make sure to give them. One of the best things about Lunar New Year has to be the food. It’s a tradition to feast on hot pot and dumplings.

What are some of your most treasured memories from celebrating this special holiday?
Back in China, we’d celebrate Lunar New Year for 15 days straight, starting at home with firecrackers, then dinner with friends and family, and preparing lanterns. I don’t get to do that here in the states, so it definitely holds a special place in my heart.

Many people will be celebrating by themselves this year. What suggestions do you have to lift their spirits and make the best of it?Nothing lifts the spirits like food and decor during this time. I definitely recommend preparing meaningful dishes from scratch, like noodles or fish. Then, craft your own paper lanterns to put up around the house. There are tons of fun DIY tutorials out there.

What outfit will you be wearing? (Whether staying in or celebrating out!)
Mostly likely something red with pops of gold. It’ll probably be a play on the sequin trend that’s going strong right now.

What do you wish to leave behind this year and what are you looking forward to for 2022?
I’ll be leaving behind unnecessary stress, perfectionism and regrets. I’m looking forward to many more amazing travel experiences and new opportunities to top in 2021. I had such an incredible year last year and I really can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2022.

What’s your favorite trend so far for 2022?
I’m digging platform shoes, Y2K and all things sequin.

What does the year of the tiger mean to you? What are some ways you will embrace this animal symbol this year?
The year of the tiger is symbolic of ambition, courage and adventure. I plan to embrace this by making bold choices and doing things that scare me, including taking more risks and tackling new business ideas.

LuisaViaRoma celebrates the Lunar New Year - 12

What does the Lunar New Year mean to you?
For me, the Lunar New Year is not only a time to welcome the new year, but also a holiday for the family reunion. On New Year’s Eve, all family members come together from all parts of the world to celebrate together.  I love it when we put away all our distractions and sit together to fully enjoy the big dinner and talk about the funny things that happened during the whole year and the memories of our childhood. Because of the Lunar New Year, we can get together with all our families. I feel so happy and satisfied.

Do you have any traditions you’d like to share with us for the Lunar New Year?
The Lunar New Year has many traditional customs, some of them are quite interesting, some are quite “tiring”.  For example: on New Year’s Eve, besides the reunion, the red envelope is another key point. Before entering the workforce, we could get the red envelope from the elders every year. Usually, I used the money to buy new clothes or just saved it.  After starting work, I started to give red envelopes to the elders in return for their care of me. Another tradition on New Year’s Eve is “stay up late” (don’t sleep on the last day of the old year, and stay up late to welcome the new year), but this tradition is so tiring, all our family members  agreed to skip it.  One the first day of the new year, everyone gets up early to visit the temple nearby, praying for good luck, safety and health.

What are some of your most treasured memories from celebrating this special holiday?
Every year after the New Year’s Eve dinner, we will set off firecrackers and fireworks in front of our grandparents’ house and sit in the courtyard with the family members to watch the stars. Living in the city, this is something that I can’t experience often. So every time I return to my grandparents’ home for the new year, I feel very relaxed and at ease, I  find peace of heart, also I can take this time to have a good reflection of my past year.

Many people will be celebrating by themselves this year. What suggestions do you have to lift their spirits and make the best of it?
Due to the epidemic, many people living abroad are unable to return to their hometowns to reunite with their families for the new year. However, thanks to electronic products, even though it is impossible to actually get together, we can still have video calls,  give new year greetings and chat “on the cloud”. There are even online praying services, you can choose a temple to pray for good luck with  your mobile phone, which can give us a sense of the ceremony of the New Year during the epidemic prevention period.

What outfit will you be wearing? (Whether staying in- or celebrating out!)
There will be red pieces for sure!Red symbolizes auspiciousness and happyness,it’s also the most commonly seen clothing color on the road during the Lunar New Year. When I was a kid, I was a little repelled by the elders’ requiremento to wear red ( who doesn’t have a rebellious childhood), but after working in the fashion industry, I realized that red can be stylish. During the Spring Festival, I like to add red elements to my look. For example, a red crop top with a black coat, paired with jeans or black, white pants for a chic and auspicious style.

What do you wish to leave behind this year and what are you looking forward to for 2022?
The epidemic has disrupted all the rhythms of work and life, my mood is somewhat affected. For example, I can’t go abroad to attend fashion week or travel to explore new inspirations. In 2022, learn to face the post-pandemic era with a positive attitude, readjust the pace of life, set new goals for yourself and move forward.

What’s your favorite trend so far for 2022?
In the 2022 Spring Summer, I really like the Cut-off trend. Unlike the previous seasons, which focused only on the wait. This year, we can see many brands trying cut out design in various parts of the body, such as Balmain, SAINT Laurent, Stella McCarteny and other brands are trying be creative with areas like the collarbone, chest and thighs, and the asymmetrical cut out is even more charming. Also because brands began to use models of different body types, through the cut-off design, we can see the beauty of every body type.

What does the year of the tiger mean to you? What are some ways you will embrace this animal symbol this year?
Tigers have been seen as symbols of courage, confidence and strength since ancient times. I hope I can take those symbols to achieve the goals I set this year
