Mother’s Day with Rachel - Mother-day-Rachel-header

Mother’s Day done the right way, according to the woman (and mother) behind Pink Peonies!

Where will we find you on Mothers Day?
Ill be spending Mothers Day with my little family. Well go to church (in coordinating outfits of course) and then visit both my mom and my mother-in-law. My husband and I both come from large families so we spend lots of time with them on Sunday.

Being a mother is …. the hardest thing but also the most rewarding thing. Growing up when people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would respond with “a mom.”

My kids are… my world. Everything I do is for them and they are my greatest joy! I never knew such happiness or perfect love existed. Not every day is easy, being a mom is so challenging at times but they complete my heart. I live for them.

Your all-time favorite memory with your kids?
We love holidays around here, so some of our favorite memories are celebrating with my family on holidays (like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter). I will also never, ever forget the day both of my children were born and blessed at our church. Thus far my favorite memory is trick-or-treating with our little girl, Isla last year.

What is your favorite memory you shared with your own mother?
My mom has been my biggest fan and supporter since day one. Back in 2010 when I had the idea to start a fashion blog she was literally the only person who believed in me and she kept encouraging me to follow my dreams. She’s the one who would drive around town with me to scope out a good spot and take my outfit pictures. Still to this day I appreciate her love and support and I love her every day for instilling confidence in me and always believing in me.

Mother’s Day with Rachel - 01

How would you describe your style?
Classic and feminine with a little edge.

Has it changes since you became a Mum?
My style has always been very feminine. Growing up pink was my favorite color and still to this day it’s the color I have most of in my closet (plus my blog name goes right along with it: “Pink Peonies”). I don’t think my style has changed much since becoming a mom although I do wear a lot more athleisure on a daily basis since I’m chasing a toddler around with a baby on my hip.

How would you describe your kids style?
My daughter Isla Rose is definitely a girly girl (like me ;). Her favorite colors to wear are pink and white and she loves shoes (also like me!!) it was even one of her first words she said.  She loves to play in my closet and walk around the house in my high heels saying “shoes” in her little voice. It’s the cutest thing ever! And my son Jackson is still pretty little so his style is definitely based on comfort. Hes in onesie pajamas 90% of the time!

Your top three favorite childrenswear brands?
My love for shopping went to a whole new level once I became a mom. I think kid’s clothing is so cute and I love dressing both of my kids! I have several go-to brands but a few of my favorites are Ralph Lauren Childrenswear, Burberry, and Milly Minis. They have such great options that are a good quality and will last for (hopefully) more kids in the future!

What are some of the challenges you have faced as a mother?
My biggest challenge has been balance. I wear so many different hats; Im a wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt, boss, business owner, blogger, friend, neighbor. The list goes on! Ive worked out a schedule where I work a couple days out of the week and am home the other days, that way when Im at work I can focus without any distractions and when Im home with my kids, they have my full attention. Also going from one kid to two kids was an adjustment for me. Isla was only 16 months old when I had Jackson so I had to learn quick how to share my love and attention between two kids and my husband. I also tend to feel a lot of mom guilt. If I leave them for even an hour I feel guilty and I often find myself questioning if I’m doing a good enough job raising these precious souls.

How have you overcome them?
I try to live in the moment and find joy in each day. My life certainly isnt perfect, but I feel very blessed to a mom and every day is a fun adventure!

What message would you like to give other mothers on this special day?
Dont compare your life (or your kids) to others – youre a wonderful woman with extraordinary talents! Youre doing better than you think you are. Happy Mothers Day!
