TV personality and style phenomenon, Nikki Phillips gives a backstage glimpse at the hottest looks, on and off the runway, at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia.
The style icon and creative mind behind Styled by Phillips took on Australia’s biggest week of fashion, sharing her take on the season’s hottest trends. From 70s-inspired flares to delicate sheers, all was on show at the iconic Carriageworks in Eveleigh, Sydney.
Ellery kicked things off, marking supermodel Gemma Ward’s return to the runway and setting the scene for the week’s standout lineup of local talent and internationally recognized names.
Highlights from the week included Romance Was Born, whose technicolor tribe dominated the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Maticevski’s sophisticated tailoring and Ten Pieces’ truly memorable presentation, held at the Icebergs club in Bondi.
From the chaos out front to the rush backstage, Nikki shares her pick of ’What’s Hot’ for Spring Summer 2015.
It’s time to shine, this season it’s about gold, bronze and silver. Dramatic and daring, a Proenza Schouler dress is key for channeling this look. Pair with a statement Marni clutch and sleek silver heels from Jimmy Choo for the full effect.
Hemlines getting low! The hemline d’jour this season is ankle grazing length. Keep things simple by pairing a voluminous Rochas skirt with a classic Porselli sweater. The finishing touch? A feminine timepiece by Nixon.
The 70s-inspired design was first spotted at Ellery, before making its way through almost every designer collection. Formal or free-spirited, the season’s hottest fit will work both ways. Try Gareth Pugh pants with a sleek Ellery jacket for a flawless after-dark look or a suede Emilio Pucci pair with a cropped Isabel Marant Étoile top for everyday.
Large, small, regardless of size, stripes were a popular choice again this season on and off the runway. Work this trend the right way by adding neutral pieces into the mix. Alexander McQueen trousers are the perfect base for a daring Balmain jacket and Chloé wedge sandals.
It ruled the runway, giving a refined flair. Clean lines and sharp tailoring, like that of an Alexandre Vauthier jacket or Givenchy skirt, are fundamental. Pair with black and white accessories for an all –over look that is chic, sophisticated and on trend.
