In all its programs, Oxfam is committed to championing women’s rights and empowering them to unlock their full potential. Supporting a woman, fortifying her autonomy, power, and skills becomes a catalyst for uplifting her family and community, fostering positive progress. The concept of women supporting women is a powerful one, as it recognizes that empowering women has a transformative effect on the entire community. By providing economic independence to women, the benefits extend beyond individual empowerment, positively impacting the entire community and contributing to the strength of the economic system. In practice, Oxfam’s initiatives focus on enhancing women’s skills and capabilities to ensure the achievement of gender justice in all areas and supporting women’s leadership at all levels, enabling them to gain greater decision-making power and control over their own lives.

THERE IS NO ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE WITHOUT GENDER EQUALITY

To eliminate all forms of exclusion and oppression, we must recognize that social and economic growth are interconnected. Therefore, it is necessary to rethink our collective well-being in terms of positive rights: full participation, complete emancipation, and the thorough recognition and respect of others.

On average, women worldwide are paid 24% less than men, and unpaid work equals three times the time invested in the same field by men.

We have united forces once again with Oxfam to launch our latest campaign:

GENDER EQUALITY MEANS GROWTH

Starting from November 29th, 2023, and continuing until February 1st, 2024, LVRSustainable by LuisaViaRoma will support Oxfam by contributing to its women-to-women economic growth mentorship programs, fostering the development of female entrepreneurship, actualizing business ideas, and launching initiatives. Through this campaign, we aim not only to support women’s economic empowerment but also to raise awareness about gender equality.

LVRSustainable contributes to economic growth mentorship for women, by women. This initiative goes beyond individual empowerment; it’s a collective effort to promote gender equality. By fostering sustainable fashion, we are not only supporting businesses committed to the planet but also those committed to people. The campaign encourages a shift toward businesses that prioritize both environmental sustainability and the empowerment of women.

This commitment plays a vital role in the transformation of dreams into actions, enabling women to share their knowledge and skills with other women to start their own entrepreneurial projects. Together, we are fostering a community of empowered women and sustainable businesses, contributing to a more equitable and conscious future.

Here you see members of a women’s group celebrate the success of their garlic project, a significant achievement made possible with the support of Oxfam’s training initiatives. The women, empowered by their training, have spearheaded efforts to mitigate disaster risks and provide essential services to their community. A focal point of the program is ensuring the inclusion of women in local decision-making spaces related to disaster management.

In Nepal, Oxfam dedicates itself to enhancing the technical, leadership, and financial capacities of women’s groups through comprehensive training. Across various communities, women consistently express how their participation in these groups has been transformative. Many recount that prior to joining, they felt confined to their homes and families, struggling with extreme shyness and difficulty speaking in public. However, through engaging in group activities and receiving training, these women have undergone a profound change. Many members are now strong, confident leaders playing pivotal roles in their communities. The women’s groups actively contribute to leadership roles in agricultural projects, supporting members in launching microenterprises such as small grocery shops, vegetable, peanut, and garlic farms, fisheries, and livestock rearing.

This is just one example of the transformative impact that support from initiatives like LVRSustainable can have on women and communities. LVRSustainable assists in the empowerment women worldwide and supporting initiatives that create lasting positive change.
