Maybe it runs in the family, the new generation style icon talks carrying the Vreeland name.

The Vreeland name is well known in the fashion industry and associated with late style icon and editor Diana Vreeland who was the edtior-in-chief at Harper’s Bazaar from 1936-1962. It’s no surprise that now her great-grand daughter Caroline is following in her footsteps and blazing her own trail in the industry.
The L.A. based bombshell is an Instagram IT girl, loved by the stylists and is the face of many campaigns. Her knockout looks make her stand out along with her sultry singing voice. She has been singing since she was 8 years old and has a soft and intense sound with a lot of soul. She recently got into acting and stars on Lee Daniels’ new show ‘Star’, where she plays ghost who sings the blues.

Tell us a little bit about the beginning of your career, how did you get involved in fashion?
Well, I have been singing since I was eight years old, it has always been a huge passion of mine. I have been recording since I was 18, but when I started to embrace my connection to the fashion world only a couple years ago, I really wanted to make my own name for myself, not to just have the legendary Vreeland name, I wanted to establish myself on my own.

I realized, I am a fool to not to thrive on that connection that I have with my great-grandmother Diana Vreeland.

As soon as I became open to the connection to that powerful, amazing woman, my life took off. I got introduced to do editorial work, and I started to get invited to all the shows, and became friends with all the designers. It has been an amazing past couple of years.

What has it been like carrying the Vreeland name? Has it made things easier for you?
Well I haven’t ever really been that close with my father, and when I turned 18, he was not in my life, so I changed my name to Vreeland, (my mother’s maiden name). It wasn’t until I moved to L.A. that I really realized what a big deal I thought it was. To me it was just my family,  I knew it was a great honor, but I didn’t know the power that it held.

I am just as crazy as my great-grandmother! It feels good, to know there is a beautiful crazy that person that you are connected, it makes you feel less crazy, if that makes any sense.

How does Diana Vreeland influence what you do?
Well, because of her power, and grace and risk taking, I can be braver now. I can make a lot of new, unique choices, I feel like I have her guiding me, and she makes me feel fearless.

What fashion advice would you like to give to people?
I think in the beginning, when I was getting into all of this, the fashion world was intimidating. When you have a fuller figure like me, I kind of felt like I didn’t fit in. But clothes are supposed to be fun, trends come and go, so just try it, play with it, have fun with it and you will find your style and find who you are. Make your personality shine through.

What do you like about being in Milan?
Milan is a city where anything goes, everything is fun, everything is light, easy, people don’t take themselves too seriously in fashion here, and I think that’s what makes it a great city for fashion.

What about music? You say it’s one of your greatest passions?
I love music, should I sing for you?

How do you handle your personal life? Is it hard to find a balance always on the go?
Well, my whole life I have been a relationship person, I have always had a boyfriend or a girlfriend, I have always been serious. This is the first year of my life that I have been single, and I am loving it. I used to think that I needed to have someone all the time. When I would leave for work I would cry if my boyfriend couldn’t come, and now I’m like, bye….

So do you see yourself in a relationship again in the future?
There is so much time in our lives to be settled down, and I know that is the life I want and the life I will have one day, but right now I am loving being alone and free. It’s important to get to know yourself and be alone a little bit. I have always have had issues with being alone, and now I love my alone time. I am traveling so much and I can’t give it all to someone yet, and when I do, I want to give them as much as I can.

I have a lover in each city and it’s perfect for me that way. I don’t have a lover in Milan yet though…

What is your quote of the day?
You don’t have to take it all, just take what you need.
