Balenciaga was founded by the Spanish designer, Cristóbal Balenciaga, in 1919 in Paris. He had a reputation as an ‘uncompromising’ couturier and is recognized as the pioneer of many styles including the cocoon coat. Today, under the direction of Demna Gvasalia, the house is still on the cutting edge, boasting modern and clean silhouettes with strong shapes and balancing innovation with refinement.
