House of Hackney was founded by husband and wife, Javvy M Royle and Frieda Gormley, in their kitchen in Hackney, England. With a background in fashion and product design, the design duo decided to create an interior collection using the great tradition of British prints. William Morris, known for British textile design, was a source of inspiration for the couple. Morris’ principle that design has a social conscience, as well as the use of some of his archive prints for House of Hackney, has played a large role in the company. Almost all designs are made in the UK, sourcing the best manufactures and top quality materials. Today the company has grown out of the small kitchen in Hackney, and become an award winning brand that balances heritage, modernity, and iconic design with style and functionality.
